Today I'm gonna feature some drawings and tutorials about human skin texture.
I guess this is one of the most important thing in realistic portraits drawing.

Hi Chong-Yi,
how much would you charge for a black and white portrait drawing?

what about children... do you still use the circular method.  I hear that the 5 Pencil Method works to but doesn't give the realism that I'm looking for.  I you includes those 2 methods, do you think it will blend in well?

what is the procedure of highlighting. I do it with eraser or kneaded eraser. is there any pencil to highlight on graphite work or charcoal work? if yes...then what it is?

i think there is, but I never find a suitable one that can layer on my drawings. sometimes i use white gel pen.
but normally i only use erasers.

should be more obvious to see in the 2nd drawing.

but it doesn't look natural when u looking at the originals, so i never use it for a long time.

Hey! I've been doing a new project. It's one of my first times doing realistic, and i really wanted to get some tips and techniques on how to do skin texture. I've heard circulism works well, but I'm still just not getting it.

hi, thanks for looking.
yup circulism works well for texture.
realism is about shape and texture, if you are not super experienced, you need a tracing method that can creates very similar outline to your reference, you can look into my WIP folder, I used grids to trace the outline.
about the texture, try to draw all the very tiny things, you should have a complete set of blending tools to do different shading effects. What I use is finger, tissue paper, cottom, paper stumps and dry brushes.
you also need a few erasers, they should include a complete range of shapes and sizes. I cut my erasers into pieces to do different highlights =)

See, I'm not super experienced, I did use a grid pattern to get the lines right, so the forms are correct. And I am using a large assortment of different lead types, and blending/eraser sets. It's been going pretty well so far, but we'll have to see if I can put my knowledge ahead of my supplies!
